UNESCO ratifies May 5th as World Portuguese Language Day

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) approved the celebration of the World Day of Portuguese Language on May 5th. The decision was ratified at the UNESCO General Conference on the 25th of November, 2019.

The signature of a co-operation protocol between Camões, I.P. and the Bachirellato School of Universidad Latina de América (UNLA) for the implementation of curricular Portuguese classes, took place on the 20th of August 2019, in Morelia, Mexico. The signature was held at UNLA in the presence of the Mayor of the City of Morelia, Raúl Morón, as representative of the Governor of the State of Michoacán.

Paula Rego's first solo exhibition in Germany, Entre a Imaginação e a Memória, started on August 8th at the Gallery of Camões - Portuguese Cultural Centre in Berlin. The Portuguese President, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, was present an the innauguration, as part of his official visit to the Federal Republic of Germany.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Augusto Santos Silva, and the Minister of Culture, Graça Fonseca, presided, on the 31st of July 2019, at the Library of Palácio Nacional da Ajuda, the ceremony of signature of two protocols in the Book and Translation Area, that reinforce the Government's public policies for the internationalization of Portuguese and Portuguese-speaking authors.
